The Long Beach Coast (13-3) won their first home series in a thrilling 6-3 final over the RedPocket Mobiles (1-15), extending their win streak to double digits in their first home Regulators alternate identity night on Friday.
LONG BEACH, CA – The Long Beach Coast (13-3) won their first home series in a thrilling 6-3 final over the RedPocket Mobiles (1-15), extending their win streak to double digits in their first home Regulators alternate identity night on Friday.
Following a pre-game performance of “Regulate” by Warren G, Long Beach starter Nick Bautista set the pace with a quality six-inning start. The only offense he allowed the Mobiles was a two-run home run by Hector Nieves in the third.
Bautista received consistent run support in the first three innings, with one Regulator run plating in the first and second. After the Nieves home run tied the game at 2-2, Long Beach immediately responded in the bottom of the third with a three-run rally, courtesy of back-to-back RBI base hits by Emilio Corona and Paul Winland.
After a scoreless fourth and a bonus run on a Jacob Jablonski sacrifice fly in the fifth, Bautista recorded his third shutdown inning in his final inning, ending the night with a franchise-high nine strikeouts.
Coast reliever Steven Ordorica gave up the final run of the game to Nieves, marking his third RBI on the night. With two outs, Troy Percival put in righty Julien Hernandez, getting the final out of the seventh followed by a perfect three-batter eighth inning where he struck out the side.
Closer Zach Voelker came into his third-consecutive ninth inning, where much like Wednesday night, he faced four, walked one, and struck out the side to punctuate his third straight save (fourth on the season).
Bautista (2-0) received his second win in his second appearance, while Mobiles starter Matt Lauria (0-3) took the loss.
The Coast are now 10 games above .500 for the first time, clinching their fourth series win (third consecutive) in front of a packed home crowd and hip hop royalty in attendance.
Game Five of the six-game inaugural home series against the Mobiles starts at 4:35 PM PDT. The Beach Ball Pre-Game Report kicks off on the HomeTeam Network at 4:15.
