Coast Drop Winning Streak at Yuba-Sutter
The Long Beach Coast (25-7) fell 14-5 to the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds (11-21) on Wednesday night on the road.
MARYSVILLE, CA – The Long Beach Coast (25-7) fell 14-5 to the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds (11-21) on Wednesday night on the road. That snaps the Coast's six-game winning streak and the head-to-head run at eight-straight victories against the Freebirds.
Long Beach waited to crack the egg on the scoreboard until left fielder Eddy Pelc scored on a balk in the fifth inning. Pelc’s second walk of the game (and 51st on the season) brought around the third run in the eighth inning after shortstop Anthony Mata doubled in the second run. Catcher Derek Laferriere singled in the fourth before a walk to first baseman Cooper Vest added the final tally.
L.B.C. starter Nick Bautista began the outing with four innings on the mound, allowing three runs on seven hits, and striking out six batters. The bullpen maintained the proximity for an inning before letting control slip.
A combination of right-hander Ryan Faulks, lefty Jake Dixon, and newcomer Jean Reyes relieved Bautista, surrendering a combined eight runs on seven hits. Catcher Johnny Pappas filled in on the mound for the final 1.1 innings.
